This junior, entry-level, on-site role is ideal for a recent graduate with a design or textile background eager for hands-on experience in the hospitality and contract interiors industry. The role involves supporting the day-to-day design workflow for hospitality projects, from sample requests to processing, and coordinating with internal teams, mills, and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill strike off and memo requests by cutting fabric, wallcovering, and trim swatches for designer and client approval.
  • Log, track, and prioritize incoming CFA requests for accurate turnaround.
  • Verify colorway, pattern, and dye-lot accuracy before cuttings are labeled and shipped.
  • Package and ship CFAs to clients and design firms, and follow up with tracking information.
  • Take notes at design and product review meetings.
  • Cut and label memo samples of hospitality fabrics and wallcoverings for team and client review.
  • Process memo orders and sample yardage orders for design-related projects.
  • Coordinate sample shipments between mills, showrooms, and offices.
  • Assist with scanning, organizing, and maintaining the digital library of design files, product samples, and memos.
  • Archive past designs and maintain organized version histories of custom artwork.
  • Liaise with Schumacher archival team for Hospitality custom design archiving.
  • Learn Schumacher's Hospitality product range by working alongside the design team on live client projects.
  • Rescale and recolor design files.
  • Create design files in simple repeats.
  • Partner daily with designers, account managers, and project managers to support design and development work.
  • Assist the Design Director with collection development and project management.
  • Support the studio with administrative duties, such as setting up vendor meetings, submitting invoices, and general organization.
  • Communicate clearly with mills and print facilities on technical specifications and artwork and color samples.
  • Support general design, operations, and logistical tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree (recent graduate welcome) in Interior Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • A good eye for color and pattern matching, with high attention to detail.
  • An understanding of, or strong interest in learning, repeats and color separations.
  • Proficient in using spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet).
  • Proficient in design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator); experience with AVA is a plus.
  • A good understanding of and experience with techniques and production methods across all textile categories: prints, wovens, wallcoverings, and trims.
  • Strong conceptual and layout skills.
  • Previous experience in design, project or data management, or quality control is a plus.
  • Able to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize workload under pressure.
  • Able to follow directions and happily execute revisions with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A no-task-is-too-small attitude and a willingness to pitch in as needed.
  • Fast, efficient, and accurate — comfortable turning around a high volume of requests quickly without sacrificing quality.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • A clear, professional communicator, comfortable working with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • A genuine passion for interior design, textiles, and the hospitality industry.
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, the New York City area.
