About the Role

LCRA is seeking an upbeat, passionate, and diligent Engineer to join the Substation Engineering Electrical design group. This outstanding role involves working on critical infrastructure projects with strong community impact. As a key member of our team, you will lead the physical development of substations, ensuring accurate execution and compliance with industry standards. You will participate in the full lifecycle of substation projects, including planning, conceptual layouts, detailed development, construction, and operations and maintenance. Your knowledge will be vital in developing substation layouts, grounding, shielding, and following IEEE, NESC, RUS, and other recognized standards. Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering design for high voltage substation projects for both new and existing installations by applying standard methodologies, department procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, RUS, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Perform various calculations and analysis needed for substation safety & reliability (e.g. Grounding, Lightning, Voltage Drop, Ampacity, Conduit Fill, etc.)
  • Work closely with other engineers, project managers, and collaborators to successfully implement design solutions.
  • Prepare detailed documentation and reports to support project planning and execution.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Driver's license

Skills

  • Knowledge of CAD software and other tools related to substation engineering development.
  • Strong knowledge of IEEE, NESC and RUS electrical substation standards.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to manage project requirements.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Experience Level

  • Proven experience working on large-scale, high-impact substation projects including site development, physical layout design, equipment selection, grounding design, electrical detailing, and coordinating with other engineering teams.

Education Level

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or a related field.
