About the Role

The Assistant Director of Marketing is a results-oriented member of Heartshare's External Affairs team, responsible for driving audience engagement, donor acquisition, and brand visibility through integrated marketing strategies. This role oversees a portfolio spanning email marketing, website management, special events marketing, fundraising campaigns, and advertising — serving both the agency at large and State Street Healing, Heartshare's mental health clinic. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and skilled executor who brings marketing planning expertise, a donor-centric mindset, and the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously with measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute email marketing strategies across donor, client, and community audiences, including e-newsletters, fundraising appeals, and event invitations.
  • Manage and grow Heartshare's email lists, ensuring data hygiene, segmentation, and compliance with best practices.
  • Monitor email performance metrics and continuously optimize for open rates, click-through, and conversion.
  • Partner with the Special Events team to project manage marketing components for Heartshare's signature events, including annual galas and other fundraising events.
  • Develop and execute event marketing plans encompassing email, website, print collateral, environmental graphics, and outreach strategies to drive attendance and revenue.
  • Partner with the VP of Strategic Communications to plan and execute integrated fundraising appeals, including year-end giving campaigns, Giving Tuesday, and other direct-response fundraising initiatives.
  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns for State Street Healing, Heartshare's mental health clinic, including awareness, referral, and community outreach efforts tailored to the clinic's target audiences.
  • Manage campaign timelines, budgets, and performance tracking, providing regular reporting to the VP of Strategic Communications.
  • Oversee Heartshare's website, ensuring content is current, accurate, and optimized for user experience and search.
  • Partner with programs and external affairs staff to maintain up-to-date program pages, event listings, donation pathways, and clinic information.
  • Coordinate with external web vendors or developers as needed for maintenance, updates, and enhancements.
  • Manage Heartshare's paid media strategy across digital and traditional channels, including Google Ad Grants, Meta advertising, out-of-home, hyperlocal media, and other relevant platforms.
  • Develop and optimize ad campaigns to support clinic referrals, brand awareness, and other organizational priorities.
  • Track and report on paid media performance, ensuring efficient use of budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive marketing experience; experience in a nonprofit or mission-based organization a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience managing email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp) and maintaining segmented contact lists.
  • Proven track record planning and executing marketing strategies for fundraising campaigns and special events; experience marketing healthcare or clinical services is a plus.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., Webflow, WordPress) and basic understanding of SEO principles.
  • Experience managing Google Ad Grants and paid social media advertising (directly or through a vendor), with strong knowledge of digital advertising best practices.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple campaigns, budgets, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with marketing analytics tools and comfort translating data into actionable strategy.
  • A commitment to Heartshare's mission and the communities we support.
