About the Role

Drive a technical overhaul by moving the BI team from Power BI to custom apps built on Databricks. Build user-focused applications, set technical direction, and mentor engineers. This technical leadership role reports to the Director of Business Intelligence, focusing on mentoring, setting standards, and owning the quality bar for user-facing applications. You will handle the full stack with a primary focus on the user-facing layer, consuming services from the Data Science team and translating them into compelling experiences.

Responsibilities

Build and ship production apps using Databricks Apps, with flexibility to explore other frameworks.
Translate business requirements into intuitive interfaces, iterating based on feedback and usage patterns.
Own the full application lifecycle, from proof of concept to production with testing, documentation, and deployment.
Integrate reliably with APIs and data services, providing structured feedback.
Create compelling data visualizations and interactive analytics.
Ensure applications are fast, maintainable, and scalable through smart practices.
Set technical standards and best practices for coding, testing, documentation, and architecture.
Mentor engineers through hands-on collaboration to develop application development skills and foster continuous improvement.

Requirements

Degree-level qualification in computer science, software engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrable experience designing, building, and shipping production-grade applications using a modern front-end framework (React, Vue, or Angular).
Solid back-end capability to consume APIs (REST, GraphQL) and integrate with data services.
Proven experience with Databricks Apps or equivalent application deployment platforms.
Strong proficiency in DevOps practices including Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management.
Demonstrated ability collaborating effectively across teams with data scientists, ML engineers, data engineers, and business stakeholders.
Experience across multiple front-end frameworks with the ability to evaluate trade-offs.
Background with Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms.
SQL expertise and strong data literacy.
Experience mentoring junior colleagues.
