About the Role
This role assists providers during patient exams, performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to support patient care in out-patient clinics. The position focuses on patient comfort, care, and safety, ensuring smooth clinic operations and accurate record-keeping.
Responsibilities
- Assists providers during exams, anticipating needs and adapting to patient complexity.
- Attaches patients to diagnostic and medical equipment.
- Provides information and comfort to patients during exams, explaining procedures and status.
- Ensures necessary supplies and equipment are readily available for patient care and safety.
- Manages room utilization to minimize patient wait times.
- Escorts patients, obtains vital signs, and performs diagnostic testing and specimen collection per provider order.
- Accurately labels, logs, and processes specimens according to protocol.
- Enters patient data, condition, and care into the electronic medical record system.
- Performs administrative duties, including scheduling and registration.
- Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels, including reordering, stocking, and cleaning.
- Conducts inventory, monitors expiration dates, and reconciles orders.
- Implements standard infection prevention measures.
- Precepts new employees, providing training and ensuring competence.
- May assist providers with surgical procedures, including room preparation, instrumentation, and patient instruction.
- Checks, calibrates, and sterilizes equipment and instruments.
- Reviews discharge instructions with patients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year of experience in a customer-focused/service setting required.
- Associate's degree preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Knowledge of medical procedures preferred.
- Computer experience preferred.
