About the Role

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Principal Engineer for HighQ, an enterprise collaboration platform for the legal industry. This senior individual contributor role involves setting technical direction, owning outcomes from design to production, and improving engineering standards across the organization. The role partners with directors, architects, and Staff engineers, acting as a senior technical voice in cross-team decisions.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and introduce new technologies and engineering practices to improve software development and delivery.
Architect and design complex, scalable, performant, and maintainable systems.
Take technical ideas from concept to production, aligning with business priorities and technical strategy.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, elevating the standard of work.
Contribute as a hands-on engineer, writing production code and reviewing others' work.
Collaborate with product, architecture, and engineering peers to translate business requirements into technical designs.
Lead engineering efforts for HighQ's integration with modern AI and agent platforms.
Drive improvements in reliability, scalability, and performance for an enterprise platform serving demanding customers.

Requirements

Proven track record of designing, building, and delivering complex software systems in production.
Ability to operate effectively as a senior individual contributor, drive results independently, and be accountable for outcomes.
Deep command of software engineering fundamentals and their practical application.
Demonstrated ability to set architectural direction across multiple teams and ensure accountability for outcomes.
Experience driving reliability, scaling, or performance improvements in production systems.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
