About the Role
The Environmental Services Assistant is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation across various areas of the shopping centre, including front-of-house, back-of-house, car park, and waste areas. This role contributes to a positive visitor experience and supports the centre's environmental sustainability goals through effective waste management and recycling.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic cleaning tasks are completed according to schedules.
- Perform daily waste collection, segregation, and recycling activities, adhering to environmental policies.
- Promote recycling initiatives and support the centre’s sustainability targets.
- Coordinate with the waste team and tenants for proper waste disposal and recycling practices.
- Maintain waste disposal areas, compactor and baling areas, service deck, and back-of-house areas free of debris.
- Conduct daily cleaning operations in car park areas, including floors, stairwells, entrances, exits, and pay stations.
- Ensure car park areas are clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
- Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues in the car park to management.
- Deliver high standards of cleanliness in mall areas, including floors, toilets, washrooms, windows, walls, signage, lifts, escalators, offices, and external areas.
- Respond to customer queries, feedback, and complaints professionally.
- Follow all departmental procedures, schedules, and cleaning specifications.
- Manage mall waste appropriately, including safe handling, sorting, and disposal.
- Maintain sanitary facilities and replenish supplies as needed.
- Complete required documentation, including task checklists and cleaning schedules.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH and PPE usage.
- Safely dispose of clinical waste and sharps according to policy.
- Report maintenance defects and hazards promptly.
- Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors for smooth operations.
- Attend training sessions and team meetings.
- Uphold all company health, safety, and operational standards.
- Act as an ambassador for the centre, promoting a positive image.
- Operate cleaning machinery safely and effectively.
Requirements
- Ability to work both individually and within a team.
- Capability to carry out duties without constant supervision.
- Proactive in ensuring areas meet high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery used in waste recycling processes.
- Ability to walk, bend, push, pull, and lift repetitively during working hours.
- Self-motivated with the ability to identify and complete needed tasks without direct supervision.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexible and supportive team player.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and disposal methods.
- Ability to operate complex machinery (after training) such as compactors, balers, and ride-on cleaning machines.
