Responsibilities

  • Encourages employees to greet and speak to customers, providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
  • Monitors and maintains sales floor operations and the technology required for customer handling.
  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service with care, concern, and patience.
  • Greets customers with a smile in a friendly manner.
  • Makes an effort to learn and use customers' names whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing hard-to-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and noting/passing along suggestions.
  • Enhances the shopping experience by performing other tasks.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service.
  • Trains employees on store policies, department procedures, and job duties.
  • Ensures proper customer service throughout the store and addresses customer issues.
  • Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, equipment maintenance, and appearance of the store and property.
  • Learns to formulate pricing philosophies and merchandising strategies.
  • Orders merchandise, verifies deliveries, ensures quality, and reports discrepancies.
  • Recruits and interviews job applicants.
  • Ensures employee compliance with policies, laws, security, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Approves checks for cash or merchandise payment.
  • Coordinates backroom facilities and equipment, recommending space allocation changes.
  • Distributes money to cash registers and is responsible for cash accountability.
  • Inspects merchandise for correct pricing and display, correcting errors in the computer.
  • Adheres to department and company guidelines for personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Reports to work as scheduled and on time.
  • Determines employee motivational needs and provides an appropriate environment.
  • Suggests improvements in work methods and procedures.
  • Prepares sketches or floor plans of proposed displays.
  • Develops display layout, selects themes, colors, and props, and requisitions materials.
  • Oversees and participates in display construction.
  • Participates in continuing education by reviewing trade publications.
  • Recommends cost reduction programs.
  • Makes corrections, additions, or deletions to employee schedules.
  • Sells merchandise to employees or issues merchandise upon requisition for inter-store transfers.
  • Handles cash registers.
  • Resets new and current items in aisles.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
  • Instructs, assigns work, reviews work, plans the work of others, maintains standards, allocates personnel, and coordinates activities.
  • Selects new employees and addresses employee problems.
  • Recommends and approves employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary adjustments.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+
  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
  • Must be able to interpret instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to interview to obtain basic information.
  • Ability to guide people and provide basic direction.
  • Ability to follow technical manuals.
  • Increased contact with people.
  • Must be able to physically perform medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • This position is exposed to dust, noise, and temperature extremes.
  • Possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to chemicals and solvents.
  • This is a fast-paced work environment.
  • Has daily contact with customers, fellow employees, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.
  • Occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
  • Has access to confidential information which may include pricing, sales reports, and profit and loss reports.
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
