About the Role

McGard is seeking a talented and motivated Design Engineer to develop innovative products, improve existing designs, and complete Research & Development projects to enhance sales, features, and reduce costs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new product designs, improve existing product designs, and complete Research & Development projects to improve sales, improve product features, and/or reduce costs.
  • Responsible for all aspects of product development including concept development, prototyping, product development, product testing, customer presentation, defining manufacturing process, ensuring successful initial production run, and staying within project budget.
  • Meet time constraints provided at the start of the project and ensure every new product is launched successfully and/or the project file has been documented properly.
  • If product designs are delegated, ensure the Design Engineer understands the design objectives and the final design meets these requirements.
  • Stay within the design parameters provided at the start of the improvement project.
  • Design experiments, make product modifications, conduct design verification testing, and make changes to the part prints and processes.
  • Investigate new technologies to obtain product improvements and/or reduce costs.
  • Investigate new materials to obtain product improvements and/or to reduce costs.
  • Perform analysis on competitor products.
  • Identify new products or markets and make recommendations to Engineering Management, Sales, and/or Executives.
  • Develop patents to protect McGard’s intellectual property.
  • Follow all quality systems procedures.
  • Coordinate projects completely with all necessary groups while providing updates and documentation as required by the project phases.
  • Clearly communicate requirements and expectations throughout the project.
  • Drive projects consistently based on project commitments and necessity, requiring only confirmation at milestone intervals and providing project transparency.
  • Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines efficiently while maintaining organization.
  • Travel may be required to support projects, manage customer issues, or assist sales.
  • Communicate status and results via any media required.
  • Interface with people at all levels of the company.
  • Review basic pneumatic and hydraulic power schematics to ensure intended control can be achieved.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with material and strength analysis.
  • 2D drawing development and 3D modeling.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, vendors, co-workers, and Supervisors.
  • Will not impose on self or others as a direct threat to health or safety.
  • Works as a team player, helping to meet departmental and Company goals and objectives.
  • Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to effectively manage projects.
  • The individual shall be driven by known project constraints, due dates, and cost goals.
  • The individual shall work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license without restrictions.
  • Capable of traveling and working throughout the entire facility, within reasonable accommodation.
