About the Role
A speech and language pathologist is responsible for providing students with specialized speech and language services according to the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The speech and language pathologist will develop an appropriate and individualized therapeutic program designed to meet each student’s need and ability level.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and guide individualized speech and language therapy programs for students in accordance with their IEP and best evidence-based instructional practices.
- Ensure all Wraparound Services of the Hudson Valley (WSHV) students have appropriately written IEPs that reflect relevance to their speech and language needs, while best meeting individual student needs and ensuring the least restrictive environment.
- Support the maintenance of documentation for speech and language services in accordance with IEPs and ensure alignment with New York State Education Department, New York Department of Health regulations, and WSHV policies and procedures.
- Attend and actively participate as a school representative in committee meetings for Preschool and School-age students to determine and identify appropriate services.
- Utilize a variety of assessment and evaluation methods/tools, including standardized tests, clinical observations, and medical and educational reports, to determine the need for speech and language interventions.
- Provide consultations with administration, special education teachers, related services providers, and other school personnel regarding a student’s optimal functioning in the school setting.
- Provide classroom programs with instruction in management techniques, assistive technology, and environmental modifications, including the identification of any barriers.
- Consult with parents and/or guardians regarding students’ therapy programs.
- Participate in developing and conducting staff development, orientation, training, and support activities to ensure proficiency in speech and language areas for special education teachers, therapists, teaching assistants, and other agency personnel.
- Ensure compliance and maintain clinical records in accordance with federal, state, district, and WSHV policy and procedure, including CPSE McGuiness Portal and Frontline/IEP Direct.
- Supervise speech and language pathologists in their clinical fellowship (CF) and maintain all required documentation regarding supervision, adhering to all supervision requirements.
- Provide clinical education for therapy student interns from colleges and universities.
- Plan, order, and maintain departmental supplies and equipment; maintain required records.
- Travel between locations where students require services.
- Remain current on all agency and continuing education credits as outlined by the profession.
- Attend all training and participate in additional training and superintendent conference days, as needed.
- Maintain proper safety standards at all times.
- Carry out a program consistent with the philosophy and goals of WSHV under the direct supervision of the school principal.
- Comply with the agency dress code, time and attendance procedures, and adhere to agency policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct.
Requirements
- Experience working with students with disabilities, preferred.
- Currently registered New York State License in Speech and Language Pathology.
- Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s License.
