Performs ship carpentry work aboard vessels and terminals of the Staten Island Ferry under the supervision of the Supervisor Ship Carpenter.

Uses and operates all carpentry shop hand and powered machinery, tools and equipment
Repairs and erects partitions, doors and windows
Works from prints and measurements
Performs woodworking repairs and maintenance of ferries, floating equipment, terminals and related buildings
Replaces broken glass
Constructs and installs scaffolding
Constructs and repairs float stages
Installs, repairs, and replaces flooring, partitions, window frames and sashes, door frames, door locks and doors, drop ceilings, and metal framing of walls
Performs related component work on buildings and structures including boardwalks, fences, and screens

Five years of full-time satisfactory experience, acquired within the last fifteen years as a ship carpenter performing construction or repair work in a shipyard, or at a ship repair facility, on a ship or other marine vessel, at a dock, or a waterfront facility or performing related marine carpentry.
Must pass a drug screening to be appointed.
Must possess a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by the US Transportation Security Administration within thirty days of appointment.
Residency must be established within 90 days of appointment.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
