About the Role

The Community Coordinator will serve within the Community Response team, responding to sidewalk, curb, and pedestrian ramp complaints. This role will also lead Community Outreach for the Sidewalk Program, including preparing for public events and serving as a liaison between the Sidewalk Program and the public. The position involves overseeing outreach efforts, creating new engagement campaigns, updating website content, and reviewing homeowner communications.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to sidewalk, curb, and pedestrian ramp complaints.
  • Lead Community Outreach for the Sidewalk Program.
  • Prepare for public events such as DOT Summer Streets and Community Board meetings.
  • Coordinate with DOT Borough Commissioner Offices.
  • Serve as a central liaison between the Sidewalk Program and the public.
  • Oversee outreach efforts, including the creation of new campaigns for community engagement.
  • Create and update content for the Sidewalk Program’s website.
  • Review all mailing content to homeowners.
  • Liaise with other agencies and outside entities.
  • Plan outreach in neighborhoods and commercial areas to educate property owners about sidewalk life cycle and maintenance.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above.
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above.
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above qualifications.
  • All candidates must have at least one year of experience in community work or community centered activities.
