About the Role

Transit Development (TD) within NYC DOT's Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM) focuses on creating public transit-supportive street infrastructure and policies to enhance mobility for all New Yorkers. The unit manages bus-related components of the NYC Streets Plan, including the Bus Action Plan, and develops projects to improve bus operations, safety, and pedestrian access to transit. TD also acts as a liaison with the MTA and provides expertise on public transit matters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, design, and implementation of in-house bus priority projects.
  • Conduct conceptual design and design review for capital projects.
  • Perform planning analysis for bus stop improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on transit planning efforts.
  • Conduct outreach with the general public, community boards, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in public workshops and presentations.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Develop proficiency in transportation planning and street design tools like GIS, traffic analysis software, and CAD.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties described.
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties described.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience to the above, with at least one year of experience as described in the first point.

Skills

  • Quantitative analysis, preferably with public transit data.
  • Design aptitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Presentation delivery.
  • Problem-solving capacity.
  • Experience with CAD.
  • Experience with Synchro.
  • Experience with GIS.

  • Remote work up to 2 days per week (pursuant to pilot program)
