About the Role
The New York City Department of Transportation's Cycling & Micromobility unit is seeking a skilled Assistant Civil Engineer to support the Cycling & Micromobility Network Expansion Program. This role will help deliver world-class street designs and infrastructure to meet the City's ambitious mobility goals, advancing the next phase of the City’s Streets Plan.
Responsibilities
- Performs engineering work related to the planning, design, analysis, and implementation of projects within the Cycling & Micromobility Network Expansion Program.
- Supports the Cycling & Micromobility Network Expansion Program by developing and reviewing engineering designs.
- Prepares designs, plans, contract and working drawings, contract specifications, technical documentation, and estimates of quantities.
- Coordinates with design consultants on capital and interagency projects citywide.
- Reviews, comments on, and prepares AutoCAD designs.
- Evaluates contract documents for the modification of new and existing signalized intersections.
- Participates in meetings with design consultants and lead agencies.
- Maintains records of drawings, plans, maps, surveys, and inspection data.
Requirements
- Must be serving permanently in the title of Assistant Civil Engineer or must have filed for the Open Competitive Assistant Civil Engineer Exam #7006.
- Filing open until 8/21/26.
- Some assignments may require a driver's license.
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions.
- This license must be maintained throughout the duration of the appointment in this position.
- New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment.
- Appointments are subject to OMB approval.
