About the Role

The Department of Philosophy and the Centre for Medieval Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in Medieval Philosophy. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Philosophy (75%) and the Centre for Medieval Studies (25%). The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

Responsibilities

Pursue innovative and independent research.
Establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Be assigned a teaching and service load.

Requirements

Must have earned a PhD degree in Philosophy, Medieval Studies, or a closely related field by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter.
Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching covering medieval Latin philosophy.
Research and teaching interests that complement and enhance existing departmental strengths.
Evidence of research excellence demonstrated through publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications that meet high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees.
Ability to teach a wide range of courses in philosophy and medieval studies from introductory to advanced levels, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Evidence of excellence in teaching demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, and strong letters of reference.
