About the Role

This 12-month fixed-term contract role involves building a new Developer Experience platform to enhance the efficiency of the Guardian's engineering team by improving observability, deployment capabilities, and software development ease. As a server-side engineer, you will work with Scala back-end, databases, and streaming technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Programming primarily in Scala and TypeScript, running in AWS.
  • Working in a cross-functional, empowered team for rapid feature iteration and release.
  • Collaborating through pair programming and working closely with developers across product teams.
  • Participating in product and technical decision-making.
  • Mentoring other developers and continuing personal growth.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience as a software developer programming in Scala and Typescript, running in AWS.
  • Experience working in Scala back-end and with database and streaming technologies.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team in an agile environment.
  • Excitement for shaping the future of digital journalism.
  • Curiosity about the organization's overall direction.
