About the Role

The School of Education is seeking an Associate Lecturer, Mathematics and Science Education for its Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programs. This role focuses on the delivery and development of mathematics and science education subjects, supporting pre-service teachers to develop the disciplinary knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and evidence-informed teaching practices required to teach mathematics and science effectively. The successful applicant will support the preparation of future teachers who can design engaging, inclusive, and curriculum-aligned learning experiences in mathematics and science.

Responsibilities

Design and deliver engaging evidence-informed learning experiences in mathematics and science education across small and large group settings, integrating contemporary pedagogical approaches, disciplinary practices, and digital learning technologies.
Develop, review, and enhance mathematics and science education resources aligned with relevant curriculum frameworks, professional standards, and contemporary educational research.
Contribute to the design, implementation, assessment, moderation, and evaluation of high-quality learning and assessment experiences.
Support pre-service teachers to develop strong mathematics and science content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and the capacity to plan, teach, assess, and evaluate effective learning experiences.
Contribute to scholarship and research in primary school mathematics and science with opportunities to build or extend a research profile and participate in collaborative research projects.
Foster productive relationships with School of Education colleagues and engage with schools, professional associations, and education-sector partners to strengthen connections between university learning and professional practice.
Assess student work and provide constructive, timely, and actionable feedback using approved assessment methods.
Use digital learning tools and technologies to support effective teaching, student engagement, and innovative mathematics and science education.
Undertake teaching-related administrative duties, including possible supervised course coordination responsibilities.
Participate in meetings, committees, training, and professional development activities to enhance teaching practice and maintain contemporary knowledge of mathematics and science education.
Work collaboratively with senior academic staff while demonstrating professionalism and compliance with University policies and procedures.

Requirements

Australian teaching qualifications, experience and accreditation to teach mathematics and/or science in primary and/or secondary education.
Post graduate education qualifications or equivalent in a maths or science or another related field.
Tertiary teaching experience, including contemporary curriculum design, delivery, and assessment, and online/in person approaches aligned with relevant curriculum frameworks and teacher education requirements.
Demonstrated understanding of contemporary research, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment practices in mathematics and/or science education.
Experience or demonstrated capacity to collaborate with schools, professional associations, and community or education-sector partners.
