About the Role
As a Java Engineer at Makersite, you will play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable product development. You will build tools that enable companies to make smarter, more responsible decisions, collaborating with talented professionals on cutting-edge projects to drive the digital transformation of industries worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain new features and functionality for the company's core platform.
- Enhance and optimise existing features to improve performance, scalability, and user experience.
- Develop and maintain integrations with external data providers and third-party services.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality fixes.
- Identify and implement performance improvements to enhance application efficiency and reliability.
- Implement robust domain logic using Java, supported by comprehensive unit and domain-level tests.
- Collaborate with front-end developers to support Java-based backend services integrated with Angular applications.
- Work closely with Product, Engineering, and external partners to deliver features aligned with the product development roadmap.
- Participate in technical planning and solution design to ensure successful delivery of roadmap initiatives.
- Contribute to code reviews and promote best practices in software development, testing, and maintainability.
- Ensure applications are developed with a focus on security, reliability, and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of professional experience in full-stack software development.
- Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring Framework, as well as Angular, with the ability to contribute confidently across both frontend and backend development.
- Demonstrated ability to independently own frontend development while delivering backend features and services.
- Experience taking features from concept and design through development, testing, and production deployment with minimal supervision.
- Solid understanding of enterprise and B2B application development patterns, including Role-based access control (RBAC), Complex forms and workflows, Data grids and large datasets, and Multi-tenant application architectures.
- Experience integrating with third-party APIs and external data providers.
- Strong problem-solving skills with experience debugging, troubleshooting, and optimising application performance.
- Experience writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, including unit and domain-level testing.
- Comfortable working in small, autonomous, cross-functional product teams using Agile development practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with product managers, designers, and engineering colleagues.
- A proactive, self-directed approach with a product engineering mindset and a focus on delivering customer value.
- Enthusiasm for leveraging AI-assisted development tools and workflows to improve productivity, code quality, and software delivery.
- Interest or experience in sustainability, carbon footprint management, environmental data, or industrial data exchange is considered an advantage.
