About the Role

The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) works with political leaders globally to drive change by advising on strategy, policy, and delivery, leveraging technology, and sharing learnings. TBI aims to build more open, inclusive, and prosperous countries. The Geopolitics Team provides senior leaders with distinctive, decision-relevant insights on geopolitical forces, connecting political developments to their implications for strategy, policy, markets, investment, operations, and risk. The Senior Analyst will support TBI’s coverage of Asia-Pacific, with a focus on China, briefing public and private clients.

Responsibilities

  • Brief Tony Blair, senior TBI leadership, public-sector principals and corporate clients on geopolitical developments across China and the wider Asia Pacific Region, with clear implications for decisions and risk exposure.
  • Produce high-quality intelligence briefings, written analysis, data-led insights and client-ready deliverables on China and APAC.
  • Identify second- and third-order implications of political, security, trade, sanctions, technology, election and foreign-policy developments for governments and businesses.
  • Develop distinctive insights for corporate clients on how geopolitical risks affect strategy, supply chains, market exposure, investment decisions, regulation and operations.
  • Draw on TBI’s internal capabilities and external expert networks to build robust perspectives, test assumptions and identify emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative methods, including data visualisation, forecasting, scenario analysis, market data analysis, Excel and AI tools, to strengthen geopolitical analysis.
  • Represent TBI in client briefings, workshops, conferences and external engagements, including through some travel.
  • Support the growth of TBI’s geopolitics offer by helping shape new products, client propositions and analytical methods.

Requirements

  • Exceptional analyst with relevant experience in geopolitical risk, corporate intelligence, political advisory, foreign service, intelligence, consulting, government, think tanks or a similar environment.
  • Between 5-7 years’ relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Chinese and/or Asian geopolitics, evidenced through a publication record, prior roles, or equivalent body of work.
  • Advanced proficiency in Mandarin, particularly reading, with the confidence to work directly with Chinese-language primary sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce sharp, senior-facing intelligence briefings as confidently as they conduct quantitative analysis.
  • Experience piecing together information from open sources, expert conversations, data, market indicators and institutional networks to generate original insight.
  • Strong networks across foreign policy, diplomatic, business and expert communities relevant to the Americas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to brief senior public principals and C-suite clients with clarity, judgement and confidence.
  • Strong analytical capability across political risk, foreign policy, elections, trade and industrial policy, sanctions, technology, security and market impacts.
  • Experience using data visualisation, forecasting, scenario analysis, market data and Excel to support analysis.
  • An entrepreneurial, intellectually curious and self-starting approach, with the judgement to operate in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work across TBI to access internal and external expertise.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and an interest in applying them responsibly to improve analytical quality and productivity.
  • Exposure to client business development.
  • Additional areas of demonstrated thematic interest, including technology, trade, energy and security.
  • Additional regional languages.
