About the Role

The Solicitor/Clinical Supervisor will provide legal advice, casework, and community legal education, focusing on leading the Centre’s Family Violence and Family Law work. The position will supervise advice nights, attend community outreaches, and work closely with UNSW Law & Justice students, teaching them in a clinical legal education model. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through direct client work, student supervision, community engagement, and law reform activities.

Responsibilities

Provide legal advice, casework, and community legal education.
Lead the Centre’s Family Violence and Family Law work.
Supervise advice nights.
Attend community outreaches.
Work closely with UNSW Law & Justice students, teaching them in a clinical legal education model.
Provide high-quality legal assistance.
Contribute to community legal education initiatives.
Strengthen access to justice for disadvantaged clients.
Strengthen the Centre’s connections in the community, especially around family violence.

Requirements

Hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship.
An ability to supervise students or volunteers, in accordance with risk management practices.
An ability to deliver effective community legal education with an emphasis on key client groups.
An ability to provide legal assistance to disadvantaged clients, in a trauma informed way.
A demonstrated commitment to social justice and knowledge of the legal assistance sector.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training including undertaking and maintaining all relevant health and police checks required to work in a hospital environment.
Experience acting as a nominated person or supervising solicitor (for Level 7).
High level communication skills and experience communicating on law reform issues in a range of settings (for Level 7).
Extensive experience in complex advice and casework for clients experiencing Family Violence/ family law issues (for Level 7).
Extensive experience working in a community legal centre, or legal aid environment (for Level 7).

Level 6 Position, from $108,021 + 17% superannuation contributions and annual leave loading
