About the Role
As a Highways Planning Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining Westminster’s status as one of the world’s greenest cities. You will be responsible for assessing highway, traffic, parking, and other transportation issues related to planning applications and development proposals. You will provide expert guidance on new legislation, highway planning, and waste storage, working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to build climate resilience in a dense urban environment. Negotiating with property developers and external organisations will be essential, and you will help secure funding for improvements through sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Assessing highway, traffic, parking and other transportation issues relating to planning applications and development proposals.
- Providing expert guidance and advice on new legislation, highway planning, and waste storage.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to build climate resilience in a dense urban environment.
- Negotiating with property developers and external organisations.
- Securing funding for improvements to highways, traffic and environmental schemes through sponsorship.
Requirements
- Established professional with engineering or transport planning experience.
- Good knowledge of the powers of highway and planning authorities.
- Knowledge of the Town & Country Planning Act.
- Knowledge of The Refuse Disposal Amenity Act 1978.
- Knowledge of the Road Traffic Act 1984.
- Natural communicator with great organisational, time management and planning skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Confident drafting and contributing to concise, high-quality reports, briefing notes and responses to Freedom of Information requests, complaints and enquiries.
- Ability to balance competing priorities.
- Meticulous and thorough approach to work.
