About the Role

This role provides financial expertise and support to specific business units, acting as a liaison between the finance function and business units to bridge the gap between financial data and business decisions. The Finance Director will manage a business function, influence policy, and lead strategic projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement business unit financial strategies, plans, and budgets.
  • Develop financial models to forecast performance, assess investments, and evaluate risks.
  • Analyze the impact of business decisions on financial performance and provide recommendations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to provide financial insights and guidance to stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement financial process improvements.
  • Support business units in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks.
  • Provide training and guidance on financial risk management and compliance.
  • Analyze and present financial data to provide performance insights and support decision-making.
  • Manage a business function, influencing policy and procedures.
  • Plan, manage, and consult on complex and critical strategic projects.
  • Lead people managers or organization-wide projects as a technical expert.
  • Train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists.
  • Provide information affecting long-term profits, organizational risks, and strategic decisions.
  • Offer expert advice to senior management to influence decisions outside own function.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalate breaches of policies and procedures appropriately.
  • Foster compliance and ensure regulations are observed.
  • Monitor and influence external environments, regulators, or advocacy groups.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how the finance function integrates with the business division/Group.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of industry theories, practices, and market developments.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve complex problems.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant strategic decisions or recommendations.
  • Negotiate with and influence senior stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Act as the principal contact point for key clients and counterparts.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the function and business division.

Requirements

  • Exceptional stakeholder management, particularly within large matrix organisations.
  • Knowledge of the Retail Mortgage and Savings Markets.
  • High level of technical finance and balance sheet expertise.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Experience presenting at senior committee and board level.
