About the Role
The Data Automation Manager will own the Salesforce tools for customer engagement and commercial activity, including Marketing Cloud, Data Cloud, and Personalization. This role leads a specialist team, ensuring reliable data flows, good data hygiene, and clean customer records for targeting, segmentation, journey delivery, and reporting. It requires technical depth, delivery discipline, people leadership, and commercial understanding to strengthen data foundations for customer engagement and business decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Set the strategic direction for the Salesforce ecosystem's role in customer communications.
- Maintain and enhance the Single Customer View, ensuring data hygiene and accurate data flows for targeting, segmentation, and reporting.
- Ensure internal systems connect smoothly with the Salesforce ecosystem, providing solution design input for secure, real-time, multi-channel journeys.
- Oversee data pipelines, automations, change controls, and delivery guardrails for consistent, compliant, and safe journeys.
- Lead, support, and develop the Data Automation team, reducing key-person dependency through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Embed governance, documentation, and handover processes for easier change management and knowledge retention.
- Collaborate with CRM, Commercial, Data Insights, Analytics, and Salesforce DevOps teams to support journey orchestration and measurement.
- Enable personalization at scale by implementing appropriate data, rules, and platform capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes and automate manual tasks across the customer lifecycle.
- Support reliable reporting and dashboards for self-serve insights and informed decision-making.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Content & Automation Studio, Journey Builder, SQL query, Cloud Pages, AMPscript).
- Solid understanding of the wider Salesforce ecosystem (Data Cloud, MCP/Personalization, Service Cloud exposure).
- Proficiency in SQL, data structures, integrations, and Snowflake or similar data platforms.
- Experience in change management, delivery governance, documentation, and knowledge transfer in a technical or data-led environment.
- Experience working within technical guardrails, focusing on data quality, security, and safe-to-send practices.
- People management experience, including leading, coaching, and building technical capability.
- Experience in CRM, data automation, or marketing technology within data-led teams.
- Ability to deliver personalization at scale using data and platform capabilities.
- Comfortable creating and using reporting and dashboards for self-serve insights.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Clear communicator capable of explaining technical concepts simply.
- Experience with AI tools like Einstein or Agentforce is a plus.
