About the Role

The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is seeking a professional to join the Learn and Earn Program. This program provides work readiness skills training, college access support, leadership development, and employment opportunities for youth and young adults. The goal is to equip youth with the experience and skills necessary for a successful transition into adulthood and empower them to become stronger advocates for themselves and their communities.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and provide participants with high-quality internship and work experiences aligned with participants' identified interests and personal strengths.
  • Monitor worksites to ensure compliance with WIOA and DYCD requirements for work-based learning experiences for participants, including on-site visits and email/phone communication with employers.
  • Actively develop and cultivate relationships with prospective employers to maintain a consistent pipeline of high-quality, relevant/meaningful internship and work experiences for participants.
  • Coordinate work-readiness activities with community partners providing career exploration, labor market tools, and work-readiness workshops.
  • Assess job readiness of participants, identifying strengths and weaknesses.
  • Develop, track, and monitor individually tailored plans to assist participants in reaching their personal goals.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling for participants to support general work readiness and postsecondary educational success.
  • Assist participants with finding and securing suitable job placements and monitor their efficacy.
  • Help ensure jobs are in alignment with FutureReady school priority sectors.
  • Help develop and implement strategies to recruit new participants and maintain positive relationships and engagement.
  • Maintain and update client database, assisting with tracking of milestones and gains related to college and career.
  • Maintain knowledge of labor market data, in-demand occupational sectors, and employment trends in New York City.
  • Attend meetings and professional development/training as required.
  • Report to and fulfill other related duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, education, social work or related field preferred with at least two (2) years of demonstrated successful and relevant experience connecting youth to workplace experiences, employer engagement, and/or college and counseling.
  • Associate degree with at least three (3) years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Employment/occupational counseling or job development experience is desirable.
  • Experience with DYCD Connect data entry is a strong plus.

Skills

  • Proficiency with PC-based software including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with labor market/career exploration/career assessment/job search tools (e.g., O*NET and Bureau of Labor Statistics).
  • Proficiency with college tools (National Student Clearinghouse).
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Quick learner who thrives in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Culturally competent professional committed to providing services sensitive to a young person’s cultural heritage and traditions, life experiences, physical and mental development, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with diverse youth populations, including immigrant and low-income communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) or Spanish preferred.
