About the Role
Convex is a backend platform designed to empower developers to create fast, reliable, and dynamic applications without a dedicated backend team. We offer a full-stack app platform with database, compute, and backend abstractions, enabling rapid development and scalable, simple products.
Responsibilities
- Own Convex marketing end to end: positioning, launches, content, community, events, and brand.
- Decide what we don't do, focusing on the two or three most important motions.
- Work directly with founders to refine their points of view into excellent marketing.
- Build and lead a small, excellent marketing team over time, performing the work yourself until the team exists.
- Set a high quality bar for all marketing materials, avoiding hype and generic content.
- Ship innovative marketing that defies expectations for a database company.
Requirements
- A track record of marketing leadership at a technical or developer-facing company with demonstrable results.
- Genuine excellence in at least one marketing discipline (product marketing, brand, content, or community).
- Judgment to hire individuals with expertise in areas outside of your own.
- Experience working directly with founders, possessing the confidence to push back and the ability to execute on founder conviction.
- Comfort being hands-on, capable of setting strategy and executing tasks like writing.
- A strong ability to differentiate between substance and hype.
- Interest in working in-person at Convex's office in San Francisco.
- Deep understanding of developers and their evaluation process for products.
- Ability to prioritize ruthlessly and focus on key marketing initiatives.
- Directness and the ability to build trust with founders.
- A constructive, positive, and energetic approach to work.
