About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Writer to define the voice and language for AI Experiences. This role involves close collaboration with Strategy and Design, treating language as an equal partner in shaping creative ideas from inception. The position requires versatility across various formats, a systems-thinking approach to brand voice, and strong opinions on visual craft.
Responsibilities
- Write and edit across formats including brand campaigns, product and UX copy, scripts, naming, taglines, and executive communications, ensuring consistent voice.
- Partner with Strategy and product teams to ground creative concepts in a clear point of view before finalizing language.
- Shape narrative arcs for product and campaign launches, contributing to the overall story beyond just the copy.
- Collaborate closely with design and art direction to ensure language and visuals are developed concurrently.
- Define and maintain the voice for AI Experiences, establishing tone, vocabulary, and language principles for consistency across contributors.
- Build and maintain voice and language guidelines to enable consistent application by writers, designers, and partner teams.
- Draft headlines, scripts, and copy under deadline, demonstrating hands-on craft.
- Translate complex AI concepts into human-centered, clear, and compelling language.
- Stay current with culture, including language, meme culture, music, and entertainment, to ensure work is relevant.
- Present and defend language and narrative choices to stakeholders, including leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Mentor and provide feedback to other writers and creatives to elevate language craft across the team.
Requirements
- 3+ years of proven writing or content design experience.
- A certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1+ year(s) of project leadership experience.
- 8+ years of professional writing experience, including senior or lead roles at an agency, in-house brand/creative studio, or comparable environment (preferred).
- Both agency and in-house experience (preferred).
- Experience creating voice, tone, or brand language guidelines (preferred).
- A portfolio showcasing range across brand voice, campaign work, and functional writing like UX copy, scripts, or naming (preferred).
- Strong point of view on visual craft, with the ability to contribute meaningfully in design reviews (preferred).
- Track record as a strong partner to strategy and design (preferred).
- Ability to write in multiple voices while maintaining brand DNA (preferred).
- Genuine cultural fluency, including engagement with music, entertainment, and internet culture (preferred).
- Strong presentation and communication skills, comfortable discussing language choices with senior leadership (preferred).
- Experience translating technical or complex subject matter into clear, resonant creative writing (preferred).
- Comfort working in a large, matrixed organization while protecting studio voice integrity (preferred).
- Experience writing for AI or emerging-technology products (preferred).
- A personal creative practice, such as publishing, music, screenwriting, or a newsletter (preferred).

- USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year (U.S. general)
- USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)
- USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year (U.S. general for IC5)
- USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area for IC5)
