About the Role

We are seeking a Colleague Communications & Engagement Manager to bring National Grid's innovation story to life for our employees. This role will collaborate with strategy, innovation, and venture capital teams to translate complex innovations into compelling narratives that inform, align, and engage employees, highlighting National Grid's leadership in the energy future.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with innovation teams to identify and share stories across the business.
  • Contribute to the annual innovation communications plan, ensuring alignment with broader internal communications.
  • Translate business priorities and innovation efforts into clear, employee-relevant narratives.
  • Identify, develop, and write stories about innovations, pilots, startups, and new ideas.
  • Utilize various internal communication channels, including Viva Engage and the company intranet.
  • Transform complex or technical work into accessible, engaging content in flexible formats.
  • Highlight internal outcomes, case studies, learnings, and impact.
  • Ensure the narrative aligns with the company's brand and external communications on innovation.
  • Report on the status and effectiveness of the communications plan.
  • Track content, engagement, and effectiveness, reporting quarterly and annually.
  • Use feedback and data to continuously improve content relevance and engagement.
  • Demonstrate how internal communications and storytelling support alignment, pride, and education.

Requirements

  • 5 - 10 years in internal communications, corporate communications, marketing, or related roles.
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and time zones, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An expert relationship-builder and stakeholder manager.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong narrative and storytelling abilities.
  • Creative mindset with a desire for continuous improvement and embracing new engagement methods.
  • Ability to translate complex initiatives, technologies, or ideas into relatable stories.
  • Analytical skills with experience measuring communications for actionable insights.
  • Must have the ability to work without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
