About the Role

The role holder will take active responsibility for ensuring effective governance structures and processes are in place across relevant CM products. They will develop a detailed understanding of critical issues across products and countries, partnering with support functions, chief of staff, CIB senior management, and the wider group. The role involves providing leadership in idea-generation, client coverage, and a solutions-led approach to Corp/SSA/FIG clients in Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with Capital Markets leadership team to work with Japan CIB and broader DCM regional team to deliver revenue and league table targets and further develop the HSBC franchise.
  • Originate and execute DCM business with Japan CIB clients.
  • Liaise with relevant regulators and internal stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with HSBC regulatory requirements, operational standards, and values.
  • Drive the continued growth of Debt Financing through the execution of DCM strategy.
  • Engage with stakeholders across CIB to translate the bank’s strategy into effective global execution and implementation plans.
  • Engage various stakeholders including risk, compliance, legal, and others as required to mobilize the execution strategy and implementation plans.
  • Ensure effective governance structures are in place to enable oversight, control, and monitoring of strategy execution and implementation plans.
  • Provide constructive challenge to existing practices/proposed initiatives and generate new and innovative solutions to address complex issues facing DCM.
  • Support new business origination and client coverage to deepen and develop relationships.
  • Proactively support and steer key cross-product/business collaboration initiatives and other product teams to maximize opportunities.
  • Manage direct reports, including performance management, talent management, and succession planning.
  • Drive the development and implementation of HR initiatives to promote career development, facilitate talent management, and manage hiring requirements across DCM.
  • Actively engage in the CIB hiring approvals process and drive the people strategy across the region.
  • Provide leadership across DCM, driving the Business agenda, people agenda, and role-modeling HSBC values.
  • Represent CM externally with clients, regulators, and other third parties as required.
  • Foster good working relationships with all key stakeholders to ensure a well-informed global perspective on critical issues and best practice.
  • Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment across Capital Markets to ensure good operational, financial, and project management and compliance with HSBC policy and procedures.
  • Drive the definition and embedding of the bank’s policy and governance frameworks across all business lines to ensure quality, effective risk management, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • DCM experience of over years, including Japan.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Track record of client coverage in the Japanese SSA & Corporate sector.
  • Ability to solve problems and think laterally and strategically around challenging situations and evolving market themes.
  • Deep corporate finance / credit analytical skills.
