About the Role

Responsible for patient care activities and goal achievements by assessing, diagnosing, planning, intervening, and evaluating patient responses to care.

Responsibilities

• Conducts nursing assessments based on interview, examination, observation, and review of patient records.
• Ensures patient progress is reflected in progress notes and revised care plans.
• Performs discharge planning consistent with patient status and inter-departmental communication.
• Communicates information to patients based on their level of awareness and readiness to learn.
• Supports orientation of new staff by observing professional behaviors, providing feedback, and acting as a preceptor, role model, and resource.
• Functions as a professional role model and mentor for students and volunteers.
• Manages patient care assignments reflecting an awareness of patient needs and personnel skill levels.
• Organizes the provision of care to meet priority needs of patients and the unit.
• Communicates patient and unit conditions requiring additional intervention to leadership.
• Participates in the development of other staff members.
• Communicates with peers to appraise practice related to self and other nursing personnel.
• Demonstrates a collaborative effort in meeting patient and unit needs through communication and nursing actions.
• Provides direction, assistance, and support.
• Assumes accountability and responsibility for the completion and quality of assigned tasks.
• Identifies and communicates the need for further staff education to immediate supervisor.
• Demonstrates awareness of nursing management authorities and responsibilities by communicating with nursing leadership.
• Seeks and utilizes nursing leaders as role models and resource persons.
• Reflects collaborative effort in meeting patient and unit needs by communicating with other disciplines.
• Reflects the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the Hospital Center in communication and interaction with families and other groups.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Nursing program.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or active matriculation in a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Program preferred.
• Documented previous experience or educational preparation to support credentials.
• Special skills/experience may be required in specialized areas.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certificate (Required Depts.: L&D, NICU) issued by American Heart Association.
• ACLS (Required Depts.: ED; PACU/ASU; ICUs; Telemetry Units; SDU; IR, Interventional Cardiology (CCL/EP/Echo); L&D; Endoscopy, and APN Adult Oncology) issued by American Heart Association.
• BCLS issued by American Heart Association.
• PALS (Required Depts.: ED; PACU; IR; Peds ICU, and APNs Pediatric Oncology) issued by American Heart Association.
• Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSBI-RN
