About the Role
The Surgical Oncology Inpatient Unit is seeking a Ward Clerk to provide high-quality, person-centered care to adult patients with elective and emergency admissions. This fast-paced, high-acuity unit focuses on head and neck, plastic and breast restoration, Gynecology, and urology surgical oncology.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient admitting/registration functions.
- Perform patient administrative services, including organizing and maintaining patient charts and filing systems.
- Perform reception responsibilities.
- Perform unit administrative services.
- Provide routine clerical support.
- Ensure efficient operation of the unit within the scope of authority.
- Perform cross-functional duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification.
Requirements
- Completion of high school or recognized equivalent.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- General knowledge of office practices, processes, and procedures.
- Previous on-the-job word processing and spreadsheet experience.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to handle difficult patients and/or situations.
- Ability to perform duties professionally and courteously, producing high-quality work while meeting deadlines.
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with the ability to multi-task.
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN, and/or departmental policies.
- Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record, and satisfactory attendance.
