About the Role

KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers collaborate with General Education Teachers to plan targeted interventions for students. They diagnose student challenges and design individualized programs and differentiated strategies to meet specific needs for students with IEPs, diagnosed disabilities, and those identified as at-risk.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a rigorous college preparatory curriculum combining school and New York State standards.
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction.
  • Commit to continuous professional and personal growth as part of a team.
  • Utilize data to inform decision-making.
  • Continuously assess student progress and communicate results to families and colleagues.
  • Provide individual or small group instruction for students needing additional support.
  • Model a 'whatever it takes' spirit to ensure student success.
  • Model school values in all interactions with students, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills contributing to a collegial working environment.
  • Possess character traits: zest, grit, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.
  • At least two years of teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture.
  • A strong desire to improve teaching skills by joining the KIPP NYC team.
  • Demonstrated success in raising achievement levels of students from KIPP NYC communities.
