About the Role

Diagnose the presence and stage of diseases using laboratory techniques and patient specimens, studying the nature, cause, and development of diseases, and the structural and functional changes they cause.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and interpret prepared tissue sections and body fluids and secretions using various microscopy techniques.
  • Diagnose the presence and stage of disease or abnormalities from specimens using laboratory techniques.
  • Identify the etiology, pathogenesis, morphological change, and clinical significance of diseases.
  • Consult with referring physicians regarding test ordering and interpretation, and treatment.
  • Provide diagnostic information to physicians via written pathology reports.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and meetings to ensure diagnostic accuracy and quality of care.
  • Engage in professional organizations, conferences, and seminars to stay updated on pathology developments.
  • Perform gross examination, dissection, and description of specimens as per procedure.
  • Train and educate laboratory personnel, students, and residents on specimen processing.
  • Take photographs of specimens for patient reports or archival purposes when indicated.
  • Consult with peers on complex cases.
  • Teach residents on a rotating basis.
  • Plan and supervise the work of pathology staff, residents, or visiting pathologists.
  • Testify in depositions or trials as an expert witness.
  • Perform autopsies.
  • Perform on-call duties.
  • Complete annual training programs and attend staff meetings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Comply with all state, federal, professional, company, and departmental regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety, and OSHA Regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy.
  • Must possess an unlimited and unrestricted license to practice medicine or osteopathy in the applicable states, or be eligible to obtain licensure.
  • For surgical pathology: Completion of an approved four-year residency in anatomic and/or clinical pathology.
  • For surgical pathology: Completion of a two-year surgical medical fellowship.
  • For surgical pathology: Must be certified in anatomic or clinical pathology, or both, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or possess equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum of one year of pathology experience.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment visual color discrimination test.
  • Comply with Board of Medicine on annual continuing medical education requirements.
  • Gain/Maintain appropriate medical staff membership and privileges at applicable medical facilities.

Salary/Compensations

  • $300,000 - $400,000
  • Pay is commensurate with experience and subspecialty training; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
  • Sonic Healthcare USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
