About the Role
The Manager, Cloud & Platform Operations leads UNSW’s enterprise cloud and platform services across public cloud, private cloud and on-premises environments. You will set the operational direction, standards, roadmaps and investment priorities needed to deliver secure, reliable, resilient and cost-effective services. You will also strengthen automation, operational maturity and the early identification and management of service risk.
Responsibilities
- Lead cloud and platform operations across UNSW’s public cloud, private cloud and on-premises environments, with accountability for service performance, availability, resilience, lifecycle management and customer outcomes.
- Set the strategic direction, governance, operational standards and long-term roadmap for cloud and platform operations, aligned with University priorities.
- Provide enterprise leadership for operational resilience, major incident response, continuity, disaster recovery, security, risk and service assurance.
- Lead the operational readiness and transition of new and changed services, while strengthening automation, standardisation, monitoring, problem management and preventative maintenance.
- Provide financial and commercial stewardship through budgeting, forecasting, investment prioritisation, vendor management and cost optimisation.
- Build strong relationships across UNSW and with technology partners, manage supplier performance and influence vendor roadmaps, service models and partnership outcomes.
- Develop team capability and foster a high-performing, accountable and customer-focused culture committed to service excellence and continuous improvement.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks, projects, and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
- More than 10 years’ experience leading cloud or infrastructure operations in a complex enterprise environment, including public, private and hybrid services.
- Demonstrated success developing service roadmaps, operating models, governance and investment priorities, and leading significant operational transformation or technology uplift.
- Qualifications or extensive practical experience in modern service management frameworks and practices such as ITIL, SIAM, DevOps, Agile and platform operations.
- Experience participating in on-call leadership arrangements and leading major incident response, service restoration and stakeholder communications.
- Strong commercial and financial management capability across operational budgets, forecasting, investment planning, vendors, contracts and cost optimisation.
- Sound understanding of cyber security, privacy, risk and compliance requirements and how to embed them into day-to-day operations.
- Strong people leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders, align technical teams and partners, and resolve competing priorities.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities, including psychosocial and physical health and safety, and commitment to attending relevant training.
