About the Role
This role involves para-professional work assisting medical providers in conducting patient examinations within health centers or related health programs. Key responsibilities include performing preliminary medical screenings, clerical duties, and ensuring compliance with safety and health procedures during phlebotomy operations.
Responsibilities
- Interviewing clients to obtain medical history and record information in charts
- Assisting clients with forms and applications for services
- Taking blood pressure and pulse
- Testing urine specimens
- Drawing blood samples
- Checking height, weight, and vision to prepare clients for physical examinations
- Setting up examining rooms and tables
- Sterilizing and cleaning equipment
- Performing patient support duties such as answering phones, making appointments, and coordinating insurance coverage
- Maintaining records
- Preparing correspondence and reports
- Ensuring compliance with established safety and health procedures during phlebotomy operations
Requirements
- Working knowledge of medical office policies and procedures, preferably in an OASAS Clinic setting
- Ability to safely draw intravenous blood
- Ability to deal effectively with clients in a courteous and tactful manner
- Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
- One (1) year of experience in a position which involved assisting with medical treatment or in the examination of patients, and included the performance of intravenous blood drawing (Phlebotomy Experience Required)
- Satisfactory completion of a medical assistant program from a State licensed school OR a school or program accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education OR a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State may be substituted for the one (1) year of required experience.
