About the Role
The Accounting and Finance Intern will gain hands-on accounting experience and learn about the accounting function at Curry Up Now and Mortar & Pestle Brands. This internship provides entry-level professionals with real-world learning opportunities in a fun environment to help build future careers. The intern will work directly under the supervision of the CEO and Corporate Finance/Accounting Leader, assisting other team members and providing outstanding service to clients.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the General Ledger, bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and budgets to maintain the financial health of restaurants.
- Assist in the annual preparation of sales projections, forecasts, expense budgets, and capital expenditure budgets.
- Help meet or exceed budgeted sales through effective accounting/finance strategies.
- Maximize profits by controlling expenses within established budget guidelines.
- Identify, evaluate, and respond appropriately to finance/accounting problems.
- Assist restaurant leaders in identifying areas of improvement in AP/AR and vendor relationships.
- Ensure all restaurants meet or exceed Company Operations and Quality Standards in the finance and accounting arena.
- Collaborate with Corporate Staff, General Managers, Franchisees, and other team members for operational financial controls.
- Perform visitations at each restaurant frequently to set budgetary and financial goals.
- Provide direction to team members regarding achieving company values related to financial health.
- Learn and understand the company story, its origins, meaning, and relation to communities.
- Promote corporate citizenship and social responsibility.
- Work with Corporate Leaders to schedule and conduct training for managers on new products, platforms, and finance/accounting initiatives.
- Aid Managers in identifying potential problems and developing solutions.
- Develop managerial and leadership abilities of restaurant management staff through finance and accounting standards.
- Conduct meetings with restaurant management teams regarding labor/COG’s budgets.
- Provide coaching and feedback on an ongoing basis.
- Demonstrate positive workplace practices according to company values.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Participate in weekly management meetings to report on finance and accounting issues.
- Assist with other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Help conduct audits and financial reviews.
Requirements
- Present enrollment in a Higher Education course of study in Finance/Accounting preferred.
- 1-3 years of relevant education experience in Accounting and Finance.
- Demonstrated desire to learn about strategic financial planning.
- Some proficiency/exposure to financial/accounting platforms and record-keeping, Google Drive, Email communications, Microsoft Suite.
- Must live in the Bay Area and be willing to commute daily to headquarters in South San Francisco and/or local restaurants.
- Willingness to take on finance projects with a proactive attitude.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English language.
- Exceptional math and accounting skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).

- Must be prepared to multitask in accordance with business demands.
