About the Role

The Respite Specialist will provide hospital diversion services, including residential/respite care, in a supportive home-like environment. This role focuses on teaching clients recovery and relapse prevention skills through 24-hour peer support, self-advocacy education, and self-help training.

Responsibilities

• Develop partnerships with guests experiencing crisis using trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, intentional peer support.
• Promote a safe, comfortable, secure, and trusting environment where guests are listened to and respected.
• Practice the Need Adapted Treatment Model (NATM) and Intentional Peer Support (IPS) after training.
• Utilize personal experience with the mental health system to support guests' recovery processes.
• Create a sense of community through mutual sharing of lived experiences and encourage participation in daily activities.
• Assist with the pre-registration process for referred and self-referred guests.
• Assist with intake and registration of new guests, explaining services, expectations, and providing tours.
• Collaborate with other staff to help guests identify, plan for, and realize short-term personal goals.
• Facilitate individual and group educational, recovery, wellness, and skill-building opportunities.
• Follow up with guests to monitor and support progress toward goal achievement.
• Advocate for and facilitate access to needed healthcare services, addressing potential barriers.
• Assist guests with meal preparation, medication management, personal care, and maintaining a clean living environment.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation of interactions, services, events, and referrals.
• Perform household upkeep duties as needed.
• Serve daily cold breakfast and assist guests with accessing snacks.
• Encourage guest participation in the documentation process.
• Participate in data collection and recording for outcomes, research, and grant-based priorities.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, interagency meetings, case conferences, and other relevant meetings.
• Provide flexible coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• 1 year of work experience in a behavioral health or related setting, preferably using the recovery model.
• Must have lived experience with the mental health system and willingness to share personal experience appropriately and respectfully.
• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Ability to utilize critical thinking, problem-solving, and de-escalation skills to assist with creating and maintaining an environment that promotes recovery.
