About the Role

The Botanical Garden Aide assists with the propagation, development, and maintenance of diverse plant collections within the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. This role also supports the installation and upkeep of plant materials for special exhibitions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with repotting and general care of plants for exhibitions, including soil preparation and pot maintenance.
  • Supports watering, fertilizing, and grooming of plant material for displays.
  • Assists with pruning trees and shrubs for exhibits and mowing grassy areas.
  • Supports the cultivation of specialized plant material using new skills and techniques.
  • Assists with moving plants and garden supplies across the landscape.
  • Supports the installation of plants for all exhibitions.
  • Participates in the Plant Health Care Program by monitoring and treating plant health conditions.
  • Removes snow and ice from landscapes and treats pathways.
  • Operates small machinery for specific tasks.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Minimum six months of experience working with plants in a gardening or landscaping role.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks in various conditions.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and overtime.
  • Possession of a Motor Vehicle Operator's License valid in New York State at the time of appointment, or the ability to obtain one within three months of employment.
