About the Role

Provides subject matter expertise in the design, development, management and implementation of assigned projects from business case development through execution. Works across BMO to deliver specific project/program business results in alignment with overall group goals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare executive-level reporting and other supporting materials, including presentations to supervisory agencies and other external parties.
  • Perform quality assurance on committee reporting and prepare supporting materials.
  • Perform Enterprise Compliance Program activities.
  • Establish and maintain internal governance activities related to departmental operations, including records management and access management.
  • Establish and maintain the centralization of various internal attestation activities.
  • Lead peer bank benchmarking activities.
  • Serve as Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Coordinator for ONFR.
  • Foster a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role model BMO values and behaviors in all that they do.
  • Ensure alignment between values and behavior that fosters diversity and inclusion.
  • Regularly connect work to BMO’s purpose, set inspirational goals, define clear expected outcomes, and ensure clear accountability for follow through.

  • Make recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.
  • Develop the business case by identifying needs, analyzing potential options and assessing expected return on investment.
  • Recommend business priorities, advise on resource requirements and develop roadmap for strategic execution.
  • Lead the execution of strategic initiatives; assess and adapt as needed to ensure quality of execution.
  • Keep stakeholders informed of messages, recommendations, decisions, process and progress.
  • Lead implementation of strategic initiatives within group and across BMO by partnering with various internal & external stakeholders as required.
  • Define business requirements for analytics & reporting to ensure data insights inform business decision making.
  • Collaborate across BMO to develop communications strategies and ensure consistency of messaging, in order to positively influence or change behavior.
  • Lead the execution of operational programs; assess and adapt as needed to ensure quality of execution.
  • Lead change management activities, ensuring cross business/group coordination and logistical support for the implementation of change.
  • Act as a relationship manager on assigned projects/programs and ensure alignment to overall enterprise and group goals.
  • Develop solutions and make recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.
  • Participate in project/program design and provide advice & subject matter expertise to achieve required business results.
  • Conduct analysis required to inform strategic recommendations and consider the “big picture” when assessing whether or not a course of action is advisable in terms of the group and enterprise goals.
  • Collaborate with internal & external stakeholders to provide business context in the design, develop and implementation of programs & solutions.
  • Network with industry contacts to gather and identify competitive insights and best practices.
  • Break down strategic problems, and analyse data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor and track performance, and address any issues.
  • Build change management plans of varying scope and type; lead or participate in a variety of change management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Identify enablers and key issues prior to and during implementation, raise issues with stakeholders and offer solutions to resolve issues or risks that jeopardize delivery.
  • Operate at a group/enterprise-wide level and serve as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Apply expertise and think creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
  • Implement changes in response to shifting trends.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying our Risk Management Framework in the execution of your role, in line with our Risk Culture and within our approved Risk Appetite, making sound and risk informed decisions that align to business strategy, protect assets, and adhere to applicable policy documents, laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.
  • Experience in operational risk or compliance in banking/financial services.
