About the Role

WIN Waste Innovations is seeking an EHS Specialist to provide routine operations support, assistance, and coordination. The Specialist will perform inspections, respond to EHS events, and assist assigned sites with administrative environmental and safety systems, reports, and submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Implement safety and environmental training programs for facilities, including new employee orientation and ongoing training.
  • Arrange, coordinate, and perform training sessions.
  • Evaluate training methods and presentations used by facilities.
  • Establish, assist, and participate in EHS meetings, incident review calls, operations calls, and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Complete on-boarding training programs within the prescribed timeframe.
  • Request support from corporate EHS staff when necessary.
  • Assist site teams with completing Observations and assessing performance.
  • Aid site, safety, and environmental leadership in coaching employees.
  • Attend and participate in facility meetings to evaluate team commitment, function, and effectiveness.
  • Provide input on environmental compliance, safety matters, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Share best practices and stay informed of current facility issues.
  • Meet with Plant Manager/General Manager and/or Operations Manager to discuss environmental compliance and safety issues.
  • Participate in school programs, tours, and public presentations.
  • Support and travel to 5-7 locations within the local geographic footprint.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain monitoring programs for solid waste generation and water discharges.
  • Implement, follow, and assist in enforcement of company policies and procedures for a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Establish and maintain a routine site visit calendar.
  • Monitor and complete EHS inspections for each assigned facility.
  • Prepare and submit reports on inspection findings and recommended actions.
  • Provide on-site stack test observation and support.
  • Assist with Air program compliance reporting.
  • Act as, respond to, or assist as an Emergency Coordinator for significant environmental or safety events.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for communication, documentation, and reporting to regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with initial reporting for environmental compliance or safety incidents.
  • Aid with root cause analysis, gathering evidence, required reporting, and employee interviews for incidents.
  • Provide operations team support with maintaining compliance with FMCSA regulated Driver and Vehicle files.
  • Assist Operations with planning, execution, and evaluation of emergency drills.
  • Maintain an accurate filing system for environmental compliance and safety records.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and provide administration for safety and environmental computer systems.
  • Support other projects as directed, such as PMO, VPP Preparation, and Clean Sweeps.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback to plant management.
  • Perform outage scaffold inspections as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science in Safety, Engineering, Environmental or experience in a technical position.
  • Math skills sufficient to complete required job functions.
  • Working knowledge of computers and ability to learn new EHS software systems.
  • Initiative to work independently.
  • Ability to travel between WIN facilities.
  • Ability to interface with front line employees and site management.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate clearly using intercom systems, two-way radios, or face-to-face.
  • Maintain positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers and management.
