About the Role
NYSERDA is seeking a leader to support the development and commercialization of new power generation and storage technologies, including battery energy storage, nuclear, carbon capture and sequestration, wind, and other energy resources.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute research and development programs for power generation and storage technologies.
- Negotiate scopes of work, technical/business milestones, and budgets for R&D projects.
- Manage multiple R&D projects, forecasting schedule and budget performance.
- Communicate project status and results to stakeholders and leadership.
- Oversee consultants and contractors, including statement of work writing, contract negotiation, budgeting, and invoicing.
- Collaborate with other NYSERDA Innovation teams and Market Development groups.
- Support the development of responsive and flexible power generation and storage programs.
- Engage with state agencies and industry groups to educate them on NYSERDA's innovation and research plans.
- Maintain industry engagement and knowledge of R&D and pre-commercialization power generation and storage technologies and markets.
- Identify and strategize solutions for barriers to development and market adoption of new technologies.
- Assess and leverage opportunities for new research initiatives and partnerships.
- Advise on NYSERDA's portfolio companies with the Commercialization team.
- Represent NYSERDA at meetings and events with external stakeholders.
- Represent NYSERDA in collaborative programs with public and private organizations.
- Contribute to a team culture of openness and collaboration.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3 years of project and/or program management experience (Assistant Project Manager).
- 5 years of project and/or program management experience (Project Manager).
- Familiarity with energy storage and/or onshore wind, solar, geothermal power generation technologies including batteries, nuclear fission, hydropower and their markets.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering on commitments with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment.
- Demonstrated real-world technical project management experience with the ability to set priorities, develop, and execute on a workplan.
- Demonstrated ability to identify project risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
- Knowledge of product research, development, and commercialization strategies.
- Knowledge of energy storage and power generation technologies such as onshore wind, solar, geothermal, energy storage and other advanced energy generation technologies for batteries, nuclear and hydropower.
- Knowledge includes performance characteristics and markets; and a baseline understanding of market actors, economics, and impediments in the industry.
- Demonstrated experience in gaining and using insight from market participants to design and evolve programs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key stakeholder groups and build effective partnerships.
- Demonstrated appetite to learn and assimilate new information and think holistically through complex problems.
- Established presentation skills with the ability to communicate persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to produce effective and purposeful written material.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, particularly related to project schedules and budgets.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- 10-20% travel across New York State with occasional national travel for industry conferences and events.
