About the Role
The Registered Nurse provides health and medical services to the residents at Elmcrest Children’s Center. As a member of the medical department, the registered nurse shares responsibility for ensuring the most effective provision of services to the children in our care. We serve a dynamic population of youth who reside on our main campus, varying in age from 7-18 years. This position is rewarding in many areas including the appreciation our youth have for our dedicated medical staff. We rely on experienced, outgoing, and caring RN’s to provide the respectful and genuine care that our youth need.
Responsibilities
- Direct patient care
- Provide assessments to youth with illness, injury, or health related concerns.
- Reports any significant findings to the appropriate provider.
- Transcribes all information accurately and efficiently and carries out orders for treatment as medically prescribed.
- Administer medication(s) safely, accurately, and per best practice, NYS and agency guidelines.
- Is attentive in monitoring for any adverse effects.
- Provide assessments, monitoring, and care to the youth in the event of a physical restraint per agency requirements for injuries
- Administer first aid during emergency situations and coordinate patient care until EMS arrives or the youth is transported to the emergency department
- Coordinate with members of the treatment team providers such as the MD, NP, Psychiatrists, Clinicians, as well as others as needed to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Assure that the physical health needs of each youth are met in a timely and efficient manner
- Oversee care provided by the LPN during shift(s) when needed.
- Vaccine administration
- Phlebotomy
- Triage
- Clerical work
- Routine and acute care assessments
- Medication administration pass of oral medications
- CCR intakes upon admission as needed
- Preparing medication for offsite visits as needed
Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing and licensed to practice as a nurse (RN) in the state of New York
- Pediatric Experience preferred
- Experience with EHRs and other database, ordering and tracking systems.
- CPR Certified
- Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to sit, squat, crouch and stand for elongated periods of time
- Ability to lift arms over head in upward reaching motion.
- Ability to walk up and downstairs up to several times per day.
- Varying levels of travel as determined by departmental needs may be required with this position.
