About the Role
We're hiring a Chief of Staff to work directly with the CEO on the problems that don't have an owner yet. Your job is to take the hardest open question on the list and come back with an answer, or a business. This role offers the opportunity to run your own initiatives with a safety net, making it ideal for those aspiring to lead their own ventures.
Responsibilities
- Solve hard problems by taking on the most challenging unowned company questions, conducting necessary work, and presenting a recommendation and plan.
- Launch new lines of business from inception, such as a nationwide insurance brokerage or a PMI roll-off product, managing them until established and then handing them off.
- Oversee finance operations, including managing outsourced controllers and bookkeeping, developing and maintaining the budget, and managing the monthly close process.
- Monitor company KPIs, track actuals against projections, and proactively identify variances.
- Collaborate with in-house and outside counsel on contracts, entity and licensing matters, and regulatory positioning, including managing relationships with county and state entities, policy development, and compliance with financial institutions.
- Act as a direct extension of the CEO, supporting critical weekly priorities and preparing board and investor materials.
- Document research and analysis into concise, actionable documents to facilitate team decision-making without requiring meetings.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience, including time in consulting, banking, or a similar analytical role, combined with startup operating experience.
- Strong financial and analytical capabilities, with the ability to independently build and manage models, budgets, and KPI reports, leveraging AI for efficiency.
- Proven track record of owning and delivering projects or initiatives from start to finish.
- Comfortable working with legal and regulatory details, able to engage effectively with legal counsel and identify when to escalate.
- Ability to context-switch effectively between diverse tasks, from financial modeling to regulatory analysis to business planning.
- Proficiency in using AI to accelerate analysis, modeling, and tool development.
- Commitment to high standards and speed, with an aversion to imprecise data and models.
