About the Role

As a DSP, you will work directly with individuals with developmental/learning disabilities, providing services to help them live independently and thrive in their communities.

Responsibilities

  • Community integration

  • Money management and budgeting
  • Appropriate socialization/interactions
  • Healthy lifestyle skills/exercise
  • Medical appointments and understanding doctor’s orders
  • Additional skills needed to enable the individual to access the community and remain as independent as possible
  • Other instruction, services and supports as indicated by your supervisor.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of First Aid, CPR, and Defensive Driving upon hire is required.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License in good standing and use of personal vehicle for transporting individuals receiving services.

Skills

  • Good time management skills
  • Ability and desire to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to work 1-1 with an individual receiving services
  • Moderate level of written and oral communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of behavioral techniques and developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of computer and ability to utilize various software programs

  • One year pertinent experience in health and human service related field

  • High school diploma or equivalent
