About the Role
The On Your Mark Café is seeking a qualified cook to support individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a community-facing Day Habilitation program. This role involves food preparation and teaching food-industry skills to program participants.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the mission, philosophy, and valued outcomes of On Your Mark, Inc.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and On Your Mark policy and procedure.
- Intervene appropriately and report any incidents or suspected incidents of abuse and/or neglect IMMEDIATELY to a supervisor.
- Prepare the entire menu in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
- Communicate to management when quantities of food, beverages, and other supplies need to be ordered.
- Upon delivery check quality of food, baked goods, and beverages.
- Ensure the quality/quantity of items prepared meet industry and agency standards.
- Ensure that safe food handling procedures are maintained.
- Oversee the safe operation of all mechanical apparatus.
- Attend all in-services/workshops and attain certifications as necessary.
- Manage grill & food preparation areas - daily stocking, chop/slice vegetables, restocking, and maintain a clean work environment.
- Assist in skill acquisition by teaching individuals how to prepare all food items on our menu.
- Inform immediate supervisors, in advance, of any absences or lateness.
- Respond politely and professionally to all program participants, co-workers, other professionals, customers, vendors, and management.
- Carry out any other responsibilities concerning programming and safety deemed necessary by the Director of Employment Initiatives/Directors of Day Habilitation.
- Maintain New York State Food Handler’s License and attend any assigned trainings/certifications.
- Maintain Valid Job Coaching Certification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- New York State Food Handler’s License.
- Valid Job Coaching Certification.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- A valid Driver’s License and ability to drive agency vehicles.
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Self-directed and motivated to function independently.
- Completing tasks in a timely manner.
- Remaining flexible to the program’s needs.
- Creative and solution-oriented thinkers preferred.
- Experience cooking in a commercial setting.
