About the Role

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is seeking an Education Specialist to develop age-appropriate curricula and activities for after-school and summer camp programs, working in partnership with the New York City Police Department.

Responsibilities

• Model and uphold all Agency rules.
• Identify and develop curricula suitable for after school and summer programs, ensuring they are thematic and provide youth with sequential, Common Core standards-aligned learning experiences.
• Oversee the implementation of program activities with the Youthlink Director.
• Assist center staff with effective lesson delivery.
• Foster continuous quality improvement of curricula and activities using collected data, staff reports, and school input.
• Develop and maintain relationships with principals and designated school staff.
• Ensure PAL and school goals are reflected in PAL programming.
• Provide training to Group Leaders, Teachers, and Activity Specialists.
• Assist in planning and facilitating center Parent Workshops.
• Present ideas and suggestions for improving programs, offering alternative solutions when identifying problems or criticisms.
• Submit weekly and monthly written and verbal reports as requested.
• Attend meetings with the Education Department and center stakeholders as needed.
• Assist in the planning, setup, and cleanup for PAL special events.

Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
• At least 2 years’ experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.
• Experience in implementing structured programming for elementary or middle school youth.
• Familiarity with integrating New York Common Core Language Standards into project-based learning activities.
• Must be responsible and organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a team player.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all lawful pre-employment checks, including a background check.
