About the Role

The Convention Services/Catering Manager is responsible for the sales efforts and execution of meetings and events held in the hotel. This role assists the sales team in meeting financial targets and sales goals, while also coordinating and supervising booked events to ensure profitable operations and high-quality service. The position acts as a liaison between clients and operating departments to ensure successful meetings and generate repeat business.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the sales team in achieving and exceeding budgeted goals in food, beverage, and room rental revenue, profit and occupancy.
  • Conduct weekly sales calls to existing and new accounts, and uncover new business.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with existing and new accounts.
  • Generate leads and new business through various solicitation methods.
  • Arrange site inspections of the hotel for new accounts.
  • Maintain accurate sales records in the hotel sales system.
  • Respond to all sales inquiries within 24 business hours.
  • Execute and support the operational aspects of business booked, including generating proposals and writing contracts.
  • Negotiate catering sales contracts and manage implementation and setup.
  • Actively and creatively up-sell each catering event to maximize revenue.
  • Analyze hotel/market trends and develop strategies to maximize function space occupancy.
  • Partner with the operations team to coordinate customer specifications and address customer issues.
  • Create and enhance menus for clients in partnership with the General Manager and Food and Beverage Team.
  • Review all banquet event orders and daily/weekly reports for accuracy.
  • Assist clients in menu planning and coordinate food, beverage, room set-up, and other services.
  • Liaise between Banquet staff and GM for timely communication of client needs.
  • Supervise execution of banquet events, including potential weekend, evening, or holiday work.
  • Monitor and manage room blocks according to contract to maximize hotel revenue.
  • Review sales contracts and validate details with the client.
  • Monitor and enforce program deadline dates and manage meeting space releases.
  • Check sleeping room and suite blocks, special concessions, and rates with group reservations agents.
  • Verify credit information and update account management software.
  • Generate additional revenue through understanding of AV standards and pricing.
  • Assist in executing client expectations as outlined in the BEO.
  • Function as the on-site contact for clients for all aspects of their events.
  • Work to continually raise meeting planner evaluation scores and implement best practices.

Requirements

  • College degree or High School Diploma with related experience.
  • Minimum of two years hotel experience in Sales or Catering.
  • Hotel sales systems knowledge required.
  • Previous customer service orientation and training required.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and organized as it pertains to accuracy and efficiency.
  • Experience in coordinating weddings and social events is preferred.
