About the Role
This internship offers a high-quality experience focused on wildfires and forest conservation, providing practical skills in strategic media and social media planning, communications tactics, and campaign management. The role involves researching media landscapes, developing targeted pitches, coordinating internal communications, creating social media content, and assisting with event planning.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of strategic marketing and communications planning.
- Research and monitor the media landscape for opportunities to pitch journalists about wildfires and forest conservation issues.
- Develop media lists for pitching journalists.
- Attend Forests team meetings to understand short-term priorities.
- Attend communications meetings to strategize content planning and tactics.
- Support the communications team with writing, editing, designing, securing approval for, publishing, promoting, and monitoring public-facing content.
- Assist with video podcast production, including facilitating interviews and selecting promotional clips.
- Write social media content for video podcasts.
- Assist with event and workshop planning and promotion.
- Upload video and photos to the EDF Library.
- Create social media invitations.
- Develop post-event content, including blogs and social media posts.
- Support with basic report layouts and social media graphics using Canva and EDF’s Brand Styleguide.
- Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals.
- Perform other Global Climate Cooperation and MarComm related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate degree program in communications, marketing, environmental studies, journalism or related topics.
- Demonstrated interest in climate advocacy.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in drafting and posting content across various social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn and Twitter).
- Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Ability to work independently when projects are due.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity.
- Ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
