About the Role

As an A&E claims professional, you will be responsible for handling a caseload of claims-made, commercial A&E claims, from inception to final disposition. Experience handling litigated A&E matters through resolution and managing defense counsel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting investigations and analyzing and evaluating information.
  • Analyzing and determining coverage, liability, and damages based on claim facts.
  • Communicating written positions on coverage, liability, damages, and other issues to insureds and required parties.
  • Setting and regularly monitoring expense and indemnity reserves for adjustments.
  • Presenting cases to management for reserve authority above established levels.
  • Developing and implementing resolution strategies through negotiations.
  • Proactively managing litigation and counsel, including planning, execution, budgeting, and bill review.
  • Understanding and analyzing potential extra-contractual liability.
  • Attending trials and mediations as necessary.
  • Contributing to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects, training, and product development initiatives.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports and delivering presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, and industry trends.
  • Providing support and collaborating with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments.
  • Addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders, providing superior customer service.
  • Providing key training and marketing support to Underwriters.
  • Performing contract reviews for insureds and brokers.
  • Attending and presenting at industry events on risk management and claims topics.
  • Coordinating quarterly risk management newsletter.
  • Organizing and presenting webinars and in-house risk management seminars for high-profile insureds.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years handling litigated coverage and liability of professional liability cases and/or claims.
  • Experience handling litigated coverage and liability of architects & engineers cases and/or claims strongly desired.
  • Risk Management Contract Reviews a plus.
  • Candidate should be disciplined, results-oriented, and able to focus on bottom line results.
  • Candidates should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates should demonstrate excellent strategic thinking ability and execution skills.
  • Candidates should demonstrate excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues.
  • Candidates should demonstrate superior time, task prioritization, and desk management skills.
  • An ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision and employ a team player attitude.
  • Must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims in the states supported by your office.
  • Successful passage of Licensing exam(s) within 30 business days from the completion of licensing training.
  • High speed broadband internet service required (minimum upload/download speeds of 5Mbps/30Mbps).
  • Internet provider supplied modem/router/gateway must be hardwired to the Hartford issued computer with an ethernet cable.
