About the Role
The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is seeking Licensed Veterinary Technicians to support our mission of delivering world-class care. The Global Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) is a cross-functional clinical team member providing nursing support across multiple specialty departments, ensuring staffing continuity and operational flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality veterinary nursing care to patients across multiple specialty departments.
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and surgical procedures.
- Obtain and document patient histories, physical assessments, treatments, and nursing care accurately within the medical record.
- Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and other prescribed therapies.
- Monitor anesthetized and sedated patients and provide peri-anesthetic nursing care.
- Collect, prepare, and process laboratory samples and perform diagnostic testing.
- Place and maintain intravenous catheters.
- Maintain urinary catheters, feeding tubes, and other patient support devices.
- Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in patient condition to the veterinary team.
- Provide client education regarding patient care, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Float between specialty departments as assigned to provide coverage for staffing needs.
- Maintain competency in the workflows, equipment, and protocols of multiple specialty services.
- Successfully complete department-specific orientation and training requirements.
- Adapt to changing departmental assignments and operational priorities while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
- Support patient flow and hospital efficiency by serving as a flexible clinical resource.
- Assist with inventory management, equipment maintenance, stocking, and general department organization.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, safety procedures, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, client service representatives, and leadership teams.
- Participate in continuing education, cross-training, and professional development opportunities.
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and a positive attitude while working with multiple teams.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, flexibility, and excellence in patient care.
- Provide feedback regarding workflow improvements, cross-training opportunities, and staffing support needs.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technology program.
- Current Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) credential in good standing, or eligibility for licensure within the required timeframe.
- Successful completion of the hospital's Veterinary Technician Internship Program or equivalent clinical experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in fundamental veterinary nursing skills, including patient assessment, venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, laboratory procedures, and medical record documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, specialty and emergency veterinary environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple teams and departments.
- Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to learn new specialty-specific skills and protocols.
- Ability to independently prioritize tasks and adjust to changing departmental needs.
- Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and client service.
- Ability to work scheduled shifts across various specialty departments as assigned.
- Completion of a veterinary technician internship within a specialty or referral hospital.
- Previous experience in specialty, emergency, or referral medicine.
- Experience with electronic medical records and hospital information systems.
- Interest in exploring multiple specialty disciplines before selecting a permanent department assignment.
