About the Role
As a Security Officer at Glens Falls Hospital, you are the person our nurses, doctors, and patients rely on to keep the peace. You aren't just watching monitors; you are a visible, helpful presence on campus who handles everything from parking lot assists to calming tense situations in the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities
- Patrol and monitor hospital buildings and grounds, staff visitor check-in stations, and guide people through Emergency Department metal detectors.
- Respond to calls for help, escort visitors, and provide minor roadside assistance.
- Use communication and de-escalation skills to calm aggressive, upset, or confused individuals.
- Assist clinical staff during high-risk patient situations, handle emergency codes immediately, and work with local police.
- Log and secure patient valuables, handle confidential shift reports, and manage the release of remains.
- Complete required annual New York State security training, crisis intervention courses, and emergency drills.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Security Experience preferred.
- Active New York State Security Guard Certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and policies/procedures.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Project a professional image; be friendly, personable, and alert to customer needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all individuals in a friendly, positive manner, possibly in adverse situations.
- Ability to defuse possible violent situations.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
- Ability to use/learn computers.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks/priorities.
- Ability to walk stairs, stand for long periods, and respond quickly to codes.
